Sleep
« on: January 10, 2018, 06:25:30 PM »
Sleep is a vital part to ones health. In addition to rejuvenating the body it is important for weight loss and many other things.

How much do you sleep? Is it continuous or broken up? Do you feel you get enough sleep?

If Iím lucky I sleep 3-4 straight hrs a night then another 1-2 in short increments. I think if I could get 5-6 straight hrs I would feel rested as it is Iím always tired midday and sometimes have to take a nap just to be able to think.

When I go to bed, I sleep till I feel like getting up.  Sometimes that is 3 pm.
However, when I go to sleep earlier in the evening, it seems my time in bed is shorter.

In seriousness, my sleep is crap. It's been that way for as long as I can remember. I've battled chronic insomnia all my life. As a little kid I stayed up past midnight regularly on my own. So yeah. Sometimes it works out and I use those late night / wee morning hours to get some productive things done. Other times I really wish I could use that time to actually sleep. However just because I don't sleep / have difficulty sleeping, doesn't mean I don't need it or can function well without it.  When I worked LRV which was 24/7 no shifts management tried to take advantage of my insomnia and treat it like some weird perk I came with, when after several days with minimal to no sleep people learned real quick my filter disappears and yeah - if I do want to or need to sleep let me. Whether I just need an hour nap or I'm conked out 6-8 hours. This is also why unless I know medically I'm in a good place (and mentally) I wouldn't do an overnight shift if I could help it.  Just because I can sleep when it's daylight out and my body caves from exhaustion, doesn't mean it's good for me or I'm getting the actual quality sleep I need. I get better sleep in the dark.

When I do get "good enough" sleep it's about 4 hour cycles where I'll wake up for a minute in between, roll over, and drift right back. I've heard that lines up with fairly typical REM cycles. While many people remain unconscious as one REM cycle ends and another starts, I don't seem to be able to. I try not to sleep for less than 90 minutes (I've done my homework and that's optimal "nap" time to get enough rest) or else I'll just still be groggy and exhausted, and then I try not to sleep more than 10 hours (if I get that much without something waking me up and keeping me up) or else unless I'm sick and need rest that's too much sleep and I'll just keep being tired.

I used to be a heavier sleeper but since being a mom - nope. Now I really can't sleep without some kind of white noise to hone in on. Quiet or near quiet and then sudden random noises jostle me awake and mess me up. Most nights when I sleep I put earbuds in and listen to delta wave/binaural beat music and it does help a lot. I've done some experimenting and some of them help with lucid dreaming and I find when I do lucid dreaming cycles I rest better.  I have prescription medication that helps me fall asleep and I also like to drink caffeine-free hot tea as I wind down for the night.

So basically I might be able to go a week or two where I get some sleep every night, even if I fall asleep at like 3-5am. Then I hit cycles where I'm awake all night (and all day the next day) and crash hard. The worst is sometimes I'm awake 3 days in a row when it's bad but those are getting rarer. (When I was in college I used to stay up for close to a week straight without any stimulants or caffeine or anything.) If I can't "sleep" sleep I do get cozy in bed with lights off, phone on Do Not Disturb, play soothing sleep music or white noise and lie there with my eyes closed for at least a couple of hours. Just that level of rest helps and keeps my mind and body from freaking out. Basically, the human body needs rest and it knows it, even if it's mine and completely dysfunctional at going about it.

I've always slept through the night. I generally go to bed between 11:30 and Midnight, and wake up between 7 and 8 AM, with with an occasional interruption for a head call in the middle of the night. I find if on occasion I'm having trouble going to sleep, an orgasm or a couple puffs on a joint will relax me nicely. Once I'm asleep the world could end and I'd miss it.

When I was unemployed a few years back I found I naturally started to adjust to a much longer day. I'd stay up for 22+ hours and then sleep for 12. Not sure if I'd recommend doing things that way, but I had a lot less trouble sleeping then than I do now.

Yeah my sleep patterns get a little funky at times. I still do 16 hour days at work where sometimes I only get maybe 4 or 5 hours of sleep the night before. I do try and draw the line at back to back double shifts I don't have the stomach for that anymore. The midnight shift was the worst though, especially if there was stuff you wanted to do in the day time because now you have to reaclimate back to a normal sleep cycle for the days you're off. Glad I got off that shift and haven't been back for years even for overtime. Though I will say if it's slow enough you may see me in a "standby mode" in a chair some place. I've been amazed at some of the places and times I've caught myself dozing off in  8) .

Believe it or not I have that problem too. Last time I spent the night with someone after sex she just kept complaining about me not going to sleep and keeping her awake. I guess that'll teach her to bring her A game the next time she wants to do that ;D .

I found some meditation videos on youtube that help me sleep.  They are hypnosis really.  There are various lengths.  I like one about an hour long.  I start it when I go to bed.  If I wake up at 2 or 3am I'll start it again.

I've come pretty close to that, rode a Sybian (after a gang bang), when I slumped off it I couldn't form words and slipped into a deep sleep. Usually, I'm always ready for more, this time though I was done lol.

My problem with sleep is, no matter what time I get to sleep, I wake up by 7am.
