Which Of These Ammo Brands Is the Best For Now?
Guys,
I am not an ammo expert. I need to learn more about it and maybe now I have the time but until then I want to ask which of these 4 brands do you think is the best. All I could get today.

I use Remington because it is all I can get here. Never had a problem with it.

Not sure the brand name will make much difference in a pistol as they are for short range. I do use a hollow point or a talon round for my pistols though. In a rifle brand names are very important.

Did you get one of them cute LCP's by Ruger? There's a company called Freedom Munitions that's very reasonable. If you're going to use a 380 for protection, YES, get hollow points. Fun/learning shoot, regular are cheap. Nice little pistol the LCP 380 and it'll fit in your pants pocket easy
It’s 2,000 miles to Nevada, we’ve got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it’s dark and we’re wearing sunglasses.

Babe, have you how tight my pants are. It will look like I have a banana in my pants. Banana equals use you imagination...Wait you might not want to imagine that banana.
It's just a S&W BG380. I want something bigger but not right now. I don't mean a bigger banana.

I wouldn't use any of those four brands for personal defense. They all have full metal jacket bullets. Not good for stopping bad guys. They're OK to practice with...Rachel Varga link wrote: Guys,

Try these 4 for personal defense...
1. Federal Personal Defense – 99 Grain HST
2. Winchester Ranger Talon – 95 Grain, Hollow Point
3. Barnes TAC-XPD – 80 Grain, Hollow Point
4. Remington HTP – 88-grain JHP
I use these in my .380 pistols... Remington Golden Saber - 102 grain BJHP designed for law enforcement. The velocity might be a little slower than the above 4 but the heavier bullet makes up for the lost speed in knock down power. All 5 of these have plenty of whack.

Remington UMC & Federal American Eagle are good quality target rounds.
I would avoid steel case ammo since they're usually lower quality and more likely to malfunction.
Full metal jackets are ok for target practice, but hollow points are better for self defense or hunting.
I use Hornady Critical Defense for my concealed carry weapon.

Federal Premium Punch Personal Defense Handgun Ammo is good self defense ammo.

Remington HTP High Terminal Performance Personal Defense Handgun Ammo is good for self defense too.

Winchester SXZ Personal Protection and Training System Handgun Ammo is good too.

There's been a run on guns and ammo in my area lately so good ammo is currently difficult to find.

It is ok for practice. Full metal jacket just goes thru and doesn't do much damage inside . Hollow points flatten out and do a lot of damage. More stopping power. Also a full metal jacket will go thru and keep on going so you have to worry more about what is behind your target more then a hollow point.

What Cobia said...
Ammo:
Hornady, Black Hills, Federal/American Eagle
Can’t find any full metal jackets for my Glock for practice yet, all sold out.
Did pick up some Hornady Critical Defense (hollow points) so I have something in case I need it

As its been sold out. When this mess is over , it will be back to normal!
Now as for what you got. That You should train with 2 of them ,and use the Remington UMC. as your defense round!.
When your able to , get Hornady Critical Defense rounds, or the Critical Duty rounds.....
Good luck ,and be safe.............................

I would not use the steel case polymer coated ammo, which is pictured in the upper right of the photo. That ammo tends to not function in some guns and is dirty. I would stick with full metal jacket like you have because hollowpoints might not penetrate deeply enough when fired from a .380.

Full metal jacket is designed for the military and based on the same reasoning that had red coat and blue coat armies standing in a line shooting each other. People have a hard time unlearning what they are taught.
I would personally find what ever ammo is labeled as self defense and test fire it. All pistols, ammo and magazines are subject to manufacturing tolerances and need to be tested with each other to ensure reliability.

Thank you for the info everyone. I will make note of these. I can probably use up a lot of this at the range. I really want to move somewhere I can fire guns outside legally. I really don't like the suburbs.
So imagine this. You grow up in a downtown area that is pretty dense. Hundreds of apartment blocks. This is standard communist design. You live on the fourth floor of one of the most travelled streets. Four lanes with the metro train rihght down the middle. As kids we played outside around the blocks and so on. Imagine the sound all day and then at 2300 it gets quiet and at 0500 trains start again. Seems normal then I moved to a suburb and it seemed quiet.
Now neighbors are annoying so time to move way outside away from people.

I can say that it is so freeing to be able to step out the back door and do what I damn will please. I don't live so far out that it's inconvenient to get to the store or necessary services but in a rural enough location that neibors are lacking.Rachel Varga link wrote: Thank you for the info everyone. I can shoot off my deck, hunt across the street and have a fire to sit by in the yard anytime I what. No neighbors to bitch or try to push their agendas on me (not that I give a shit about their opinions anyway). Nice to be away from all the crazy panic going on in the suburbs.

Boone, that sounds awesome. That's what I want. A house with a wrap around porch with a little wood rail so I can sit in my chair and ignore the world.
Cobia, yeah exactly that but I would go really far out. I found this really nice piece of land in north nevada. Problem is that it was 5 hours from and airport. Had to go all the way around a mountain. Lol
I have been really looking into Barndominiums lately.

The problems are:
1. Hollowpoints in .380 might not penetrate sufficiently.
2. Depending where she lives, I don't know if Rachel will be able to make it to a shooting range. I always like to testfire at least 50 rounds of hollowpoints in an automatic to make sure it functions reliable. Make sure to test each magazine. The full metal jacket ammo like the Remington and American Eagle ammo should.

There are places for sale close to my lease and it is only 35 miles to the airport.
