On a super super weird tangent.  There is a tv series that will be made for FX / Hulu.  Y the last man.  It's based on a graphic novel (1500 pages)... all males, including animals, are wiped out due to a pandemic.  The Y chromosome is attacked.  One man survives.  I'm doing a bi-weekly book club reading on this.

There are so many deep societal things that are touched on.  Did you know 97% of pilots are male.  I'm not saying anything is good or bad about that.  The same ratio or worse for mechanics.  When the males are wiped out, women have to relearn skills and functions to keep society going.  My favorite graphic novel.

In short, good job Drew, women need to step outside societal norms... we need more women pilots  :)

Men like things, women like people. When given the opportunity to choose in the most egalitarian society (sweden or another Scandanavian country, I would have to look it up) guess what happened. More men did jobs involving things,  pilots, mecanics, especially tech, science and women chose more people type jobs like medical and sociological  professions.

This does not mean every male or female will choose things or people. It means if given an equal opportunity then most will. That's why the majority of pilots are men. More men want to become pilots than women.

Drew will become a pilot because she wants to. Not because it steps outside of any norm.

These days there are very few "men jobs" and "women jobs".  Mostly, the job selection is based on exposure, aptitude, interest, environment, mentors etc.

Another point regarding pilots is that my flight instructor would ride with me to the airport.  He wanted to see how I drove a car as a basis of how I would be as a pilot.

For those that know me, you guessed right.  As often is the case, I ask a simple question with some complex facts behind it.

Carry on.

I agree.. do what you want.  Let’s hope Y the last man by Brian K Vaughn never comes true  ;D. For real it’s an amazing story. It’s not political really although it deals inoffensively with hot button issues.  Soon to be on television  :)

I totally disagree. It is well documented that men and women have different interests. The reason why you don't see as many women as men in the STEM field is because not that many from the whole choose it. Not because of some societal conspiracy to keep women out.

Why don't we have tons of women in trades like electrician, plumbing, carpentry, mechanics? Because most women aren't interested in that.

The trades are "men jobs"  because men like that,  nursing and medical is primarily" women jobs" because women like working with people and helping them.

I know this goes against the Anerican emotions over facts doctrine but not everyone on the planet agrees and frankly some of the beliefs here in America border on lunacy.

I am not right or left. I don't care about anyone's agenda. I'm not protesting for anyone and will not be made to feel guilty for not taking a side.

Mr actually sees where you’re coming from. I find it fascinating.  Interesting thing is so many guys go into sales but, from my experience women are better at it.  Men dominate in male focused industries like cars... women can kill at it by connecting in realty, time shares, insurance, cosmetics, and BROTHELS.  ;)

Rachel, you are an opinionated fire cracker but, you’ve grown on me  :)

Hey,
I’m sorry! I’ve been super busy with studying and flying! I like to think it makes me more aware and proactive in a party. Also, I can make connections about places individuals travel too. Really, just another talking point/ convo starter. I have been to 22 countries backpacking in college and all 50 states! I’m hoping once I get all my ratings done, I can go back and work on my MPH.

Thank you Rachel!

Females in the aviation industry are some of the most badass and hard working women I have ever met. I fell in love with flying because of the fast pace lifestyle. I also love traveling and learning. Pilots are constantly getting new type ratings, doing check rides, and etc. It’s a career that pushes you to be the best and always on the top of your own game.

That's really cool.  The Mrs. and I have been to sooooo many countries.  We were saving most the US travel for when we're older and don't want to go on international flights.  The only state we routinely travel to is Hawaii for business trips.  Wish we could all share some of the adventures we've been on around the world but, .... covid  :(

Enjoy the flying!

Yes , COVID! I’m so tired of it, and I know I’m not the only one. Hopefully one day our paths will cross.

So.... I didn’t let the thought go.  Mrs is onboard.  I think later in the year, the Mr will work in getting a personal pilot license.  Could be a pipe dream but, we hate flying commercial so....

Anyone besides Drew into flying?

Was.  Now hard to get into a small plane.  Not wheelchair accessible.
A Cessna 337 is about the best bet.
