Advice From A Therapist

#1

Post by Florida Couple »

So weird... been kind of down lately, not depressed, and a little stressed with work.  So, saw a virtual therapist.  My wife and I our hobbies are going out, travel, brothels (fun adult style), etc...  all non existent since March last year.  We’re getting to the light at the end of the tunnel with covid but, just been so ughhh nothing to look forward to.

Anyway ,long story short.... the therapist is supposed to be sex life friendly but, warned me about brothels in Nevada and local escorts.  He literally said in the brothels 80% of the women are being trafficked and even more escorts. I said, it’s legal there and women choose to work there.  He insisted he has studies that spouses, boyfriends, and pimps are making them work there... they act like they like it or they’ll be beaten.  He then said if I, or my wife, had sex with any brothel lady and later it was determined they were trafficked, we would go to prison for 5 years because of federal law  WTF?

I don’t know about that. I have a few questions about what the therapist said. If you have sex in a legal brothel then what federal law was broken where you would go to jail for five years?
Then let’s say such a federal law exists, how would they track people down that “broke” this law? I’ve paid cash and don’t have to show an id.
And if they can track you down, they have to prove that sexual activity took place. Now’s the time to say “I did not have sexual relations with that woman.”

Sorry, my opinion is that the therapist gave you some incorrect information.

Was it BetterHelp? It was being pushed by a ton of Youtubers until Pewdiepie pointed out that they don't check to see if the therapists are licensed or even have education in that field and that they state this in the fine print. A lot of people hate him but as he said, it's extremely unethical to promote a company that preys on people that need help with their mental problems.

Psychiatrists, psychologists, and theraipsts are trained and do residencies to learn and understand how to help people with problems that come up in their lives. Some people should not be in the field and that sounds like one of them. I would try another one if you want and not be deterred by one that is opinionated and misinformed.

This is why I do not think any of us ladies should call ourselves therapists, counselors, or psychologists. We should not put that idea out because it is very unethical. It is a conflict of interest and could be seen as taking advantage of someone with genuine issues. I hear a lot of people's problems and I may give advice only like a friend (like being anxious about visiting or needing confidence) but beyond that, I will refer them to a professional.

Anyway, Phoenix, don't give up. There are professionals that are not biased and know how to listen so don't give up.

His rationale or irrational rationale was that State laws don't trump Federal law.  He said it may be legal to do weed in XXX state but, the feds don't recognize that and can prosecute you.  He was saying that, even if we didn't know a lady was trafficked... just like child porn (even if you didn't know they were underage)... you could still be prosecuted for partaking.  That's what he said but, how the hell should I know.  I talked with my wife after our virtual meeting and kept saying this doesn't sound right.

I honestly think he had some kind of religious dogmatic view of sex in general.  He asked about me... I stated I had an open and outgoing personality... many time I'm flirty.  He said flirtation was not a personality trait and basically that I can tune in to who responds to flirting and I'm a predator now??  What the actual fuck.

80% trafficked just sounded so crazy I had to share.

Picking someone new :)

I think among other things he was confusing massage parlors he's seen in the news with legal Brothels. One big difference is the vetting, background check and license of each LPIN worker in addition to the Brothel as a business itself. Trafficking may fit a business model of some criminal massage parlors as bad as it is until they get caught. Trafficking would NEVER fit the business model of a legal brothel in Nevada.

Yeah but prostitution is not federally banned. It is at the State level. It is not like drug laws. It is pretty much accepted that the fbi is not going to go after people smoking weed. Big drug traffickers yes but going after the average person is going to the Supreme Court and involve the tenth ammedment.

Trafficking people is different. They don't mess with the brothels because they know it's not true. They have probably looked at the industry and realize nothing is there and go after the real trafficking scumbags.
