Volvo going electric.  http://www.bbc.com/news/business-40505671 GM is even getting into the game,  http://www.worldwatch.org/node/5956  which seems to have been inspired by Tesla. Cali is even going as far as setting a date when Uber and Lyft will have to be electric.  https://www.forbes.com/sites/alanohnsma ... 0315b113fc

It will be interesting to see how long Volvo maintains this marketing position.

So far, electric only cars are suitable for only local and urban transportation.  For a 300 mile range car, one has to assume 150 miles with limited margin.  Then a recharge time of 4 to 10 hours.  Going cross country would take a long time.

Those of us that use electric wheelchairs factor in this each day.

The battery technology has always been and remains the limitation.  Once the range and recharge time is solved, a lot of cars will be electric.  They are much simpler and more reliable than a gas car.  (I have had my electric wheelchair for one year and the only maintenance was an arm rest I cut by running into a table support.)

Currently Tesla has a range of 200 Miles and can get 1/2 capacity charge in an hour. The tech is already improving so it won't be long before the batteries are improved enough to get 300-400 miles on a charge. Maybe it's 'cause I live near the plant, but I see 6 to 10 Teslas a day, and it's considered a "status" thing to have one. When I can drive to LA on a charge I'd consider buying an all electric car.

I noticed that Harry and Meghan drove off into the sunset in a 1967 Jaguar XKE- E, converted to full electric. Very cool! I doubt if I'll live long enough to ever ride a maglev train to LA, as I guess the completion date being 20 years away.
