Why are the surrounding areas so vastly different?

Why do the areas around these places look so different? The neighboring buildings, the development or lack of, new business moving in. Just driving in or around. For the record, the brothels were there first, what came after or didn't is what I am looking for opinions on.

I think it’s as simple as I80 vs highway 50. Then the proximity to Reno and the Major airport. That’s why all these people who blame the lack of new business in Lyon co on the Brothels are so full of shit! It’s not the Brothels, it’s the fact Lyon county is in the middle of nowhere, has no major freeway for commerce and is farther from Reno and the airport.
