Any friends that are firefighters?
A technique to see through certain kinds of fire is being developed by NIST.

Interesting but I don't see any use of it in the field of fire suppression.  We use thermal imagers to help see in the smoke.  Thermal imagers have came a long ways over the first one I used over 20 years ago.  We now have personal thermal imagers that is the size of you palm and very small ones that can be mounted to a helmet.
