Sean Connery won his only Academy Award Oscar for his role as Jim Malone in the Untouchables. Great movie! But still, he will forever be the ultimate James Bond. When folks talk about James Bond movies, the ones talked about the most will be the ones with Sean Connery.

In The Hunt For Red October some of his Russian is gibberish. Even Russian language experts don't know what some of it is.
Harrison Ford and Richard Gere though have the worst vocal accents. Ford in K19 can't decide if he is American or Russian. Really sloppy. Gere in The Jackal. Worst Irish accent ever. Brad Pitt is dead on Irish and his Scottish Gypsy is so thick you might need subtitles.
Connery has a nice upper class Scottish accent. That's what it sounds like to me. Perfect for Bond.

The movie is called Snatch. It's Irish and not Scottish I think.

Technically, Connery's Soviet Commander was Lithuanian (according to Jack Ryan/Alec Baldwin) but Sean Connery was being Sean Connery--at this point, he was allowed that wide a berth. For the most part, a lot of Russian "accents" seem to go no deeper than Boris and Natasha from Rocky and Bullwinkle.

Yeah, he had a wide variety of roles outside of James Bond.
One of my favorites will always be Highlander, where he plays a Spaniard named Santiago.
Or when he played a thief in Entrapment.

That is true but Lithuanian is a proto-baltic language and very different from Slavic. More than likely he got it wrong and with that deep Scottish accent it was butchered.
Some actors aren't good at it. Sometimes they don't want a coach or just don't care. Who knows.

A Spaniard with a Scottish accent.
On East European Languages. Most are Slavic. Romania has Slavic countries around us. Romanian is one of the four romance languages along with French, Spanish, and Italian. Those are latin so I can't speak the Slavic ones like Russian and others. I took eight years of Latin throughout school.
Some history. Romania was Dacia before the Romans arrived. It was not Romania as we know it today. It was Wallachia, Ardeal (Transylvannia) and Moldovan area. Vlad Tepes or Dracula was not Transylvannian, he was a Wallachian Prince who refused to pay tribute to the Turkish Empire. He is see as brutal to the world but to us he is a national hero.
He did not eat people. The wood block carvings are German. They hated him because he felt their traders were dishonest and so he killed them. Earliest known German propoganda. Lol.
Anyways, he fought if Turkish soldies and had anywhere from 12 to 25000 impaled. The next Turkish army shows up, sees massive field of rotting corpes and goes home. Finally they sent s bigger force. He was in power three times for around 12 years. They killed him eventually.
His name is Vlad Dracul III it is believed. Dracul is order of the dragon which is why he is Dracul the third. Dracula is son of Dracul.
Bram Stoker wrote Dracula and all his research was from British archives. It was written in the 1890's so it was basically poorly recorded history. During the time Ceausescu they did a lot of research in back home and now we know more realistically who he was.
Stokers novel was called The Undead I believe, and at the last minute he marked through it and wrote Dracula. The rest is history.
If I am wrong don't flame me. Instead impale yourself.
