Bahrain Grand Prix

There was a gnarly wreck at the outset.  Couldn’t believe Grosjean climbed out of that ball of fire on the first lap.  The car was split in half.  Wow. I was pulling for the Haas team, being the only US team  :( .  He’s okay.

Didn’t even get to watch the race.... 1 1/2 hour race delay and then Stroll rolled his car ?.  My dvr stopped recording.

I have only seen up to the Stroll part so no one spoil it. Wow, Grojean crawling out of that fire. When the camera is looking down the track and you see the first time it explodes it was like WHOAH!! The halo saved him from decapitation and if that had been those concrete barriers he would probably be dead I think.

The Stroll Roll was kind of funny. I know that sounds mean only his pride was hurt. He is an example of nepotism and it really ruins some of the sport if you ask me. Lewis came from nothing and is a 7 time world champion which I would rather see than a paid driver like Stroll or Latifi.

This guy makes these kind of dumb meme videos but some of them are funny. The Kimi video always makes me smile.

"What do you think of the new helmets?"
"They protect my head."

I think everyone has seen the part where Grojean is jumping the rail but here at around 1:20 you can see him getting out and he is in the fire.

That was definately one of the most horrific crashes I have ever seen watching open wheel for decades. A testament to the safety and technology in F1. That's why I have always loved F1 and CART (former). They are leaders in racing and cutting edge tech. Some of us think teams should be rewarded for that as it keeps pushing the sport forward.

I always get a kick when Nascar tries to make a claim about technology and safety. Hans device, crumple zones...lol. Twenty years later yup, right after they discovered strapping a guy in a steel cage wasn't all that safe.

Long live open wheel racing!

Yeah, they are and a lot of that tech goes into cars. Many including Grojean didn't like the halo because they said it was ugly but I think it makes the car sexy. Now no one is saying the don't like it. It is made of titanium and can withstand some ridiculous amount of force.

The data from Grojeans car said he was going over 125mph and the impact was 56gs.

This was probably his last race in F1. No seat next year and will probably go to Indy.

Oh and Hamilton has covid. Mercedes has a backup that has barely driven an F1 and everyone wants to see Hulkenberg in the car. He already raced twice when Perez had covid.

He has the unfortunate distinction of never winning a race but was an F2 champion. Everyone says he is championship material. That's why everyone wants him to drive the Mercedes. To see if he is good in a superior car. If he does bad then the debate is settled.
