My first impression from watching the video is the decor seems kind of dated. The same colors you would have seen in brothels 40 years ago. However, it did seem to be well maintained. Don't know what the deal is with the massage parlor with working women doing the massage. Is that the happy ending brothel or just the appetizers before heading to the brothel for the main course?

This surprised me (pleasantly). Since they're even more rural than Elko or Wells I was expecting the facility to be rundown. But both the interior and exterior were well-kept.

(If I weren't hundreds and hundreds of miles away, I'd stop by!)

The problem with all rural brothels use to be the availability of women. Nothing like driving hundreds of miles only to discover the lack of women available. At least that was the way it was when I was going. Of course, it didn't matter to me, it was just as much about the road trip as the brothels. I was curious when the feller mentioned the women getting checked once a week at The hospital in Ely---A hospital in Ely? Yep, staffed by 3 doctors.

I've never been to the Big Four so I was surprised at how nice it looked inside. The Stardust Ranch is also suppose to be right across the road from the Big Four Ranch. I surprised that he didn't mention the other brothel or maybe he wasn't aware that it was there. LOL

Great Basin National Park isn't too far from Ely (about a 1 hr drive to the visitors center), so there are other things to do in addition to the brothels when you're out that way.

It looked nicer that we thought. They should tone down the red a little, IMO. The bar is bigger than some of the small brothels we've been to. Honestly, would be a little afraid to go there.. drive all that way and no idea who works there, how many ladies are there, etc.. The website has nothing listed. No clue if we would want to go there?

As I recall, ChicagoBob visited the Ely brothels. I think it was when he did that circle tour around Nevada and visited all of the brothels in the state.

I visited the Stardust once, maybe 3 years ago or more. The ladies and bartender seemed nice enough but it wasn't for me at all and I wouldn't ever go out of my way to go back. At the time, or for me, it just had a seedy/rundown feel to it which made me uncomfortable to do any business there if I had been so inclined. The Big 4 is basically right across the street from the Stardust and was open at the time, but nobody ever answered me when I rang the bell so I didn't get to go inside. Ely itself has some decent hotels and restaurants so I did enjoy the night I spent there.

In response to Sidey, I wouldn't say that there is a problem in terms of general availability of ladies at rural brothels. The main problem I see is many rural brothels don't keep their websites up to date or might be more lax about letting ladies go home early for the night/get drunk etc., so in most cases you never know who is going to be there or not when you show up. No big deal really if you are passing through anyways, but I agree with you in the sense that I probably would never drive to the rural brothels for the sole purpose of visiting them. I'd be much more inclined in that case to go to the Mustang or maybe even Sheri's where I would know they have a dependable (and fantastic) line up.

I was in Ely last September when the brothels were closed. The bars at Big 4 and Stardust were open, and I stopped in for a drink and talked to the managers at both places. They were friendly and the bars were clean and pleasant. The massage parlor at the big 4 was also open. Ely is close to Great Basin National Park, which was where I was headed when I passed through Ely last year. There is a nice restored turn of the century Hotel and casino, Hotel NV, and a more modern motel called the Jail House a few blocks away from the two brothels.

I will be taking a road trip through NV in a couple of weeks. Will spend my first night in Ely, but haven't decided if I want to visit the brothels there or save my money for Elko. Decisions decisions.

I don't know about now so it's good to hear others chime in. It also use to be, the most busy time of the year for many or the rural brothels was in the fall. Deer Hunting season. With the copper mine going, it might be keeping the rural brothels in Ely going.

I get why brothels are dark and use red but sometimes I wish the main area had better light and then maybe off to the side the areas are darker. The contrast would make it more cozy but it's also that it hurts yours eyes when you work in a darkened area.

Are the Ely brothels still open? Stardust has no online presence anymore, as it seems their Facebook page is gone and their Instagram page is long dormant.
