AR-15s need lubrication. I was actually taught that malfunction clearance for a double feed. It was nicknamed "Prom Night."

How about when the bolt is locked forward because of a jam then you get to use the "mortar technique". Had to do that a few times.

You better have the collapsible stock collapsed before you do that.

This is for real. I was at a 3 gun match when a fellow shooter had a jam that he couldn't clear by hand so he decided to use the "mortar technique" to clear the malfunction. His stock was fully extended. First strike against the ground shattered his stock into more than a dozen pieces. He blamed it on a cheap stock which may have been true. I don't like collapsible AR stocks. IMHO, they're fragile & rattle too much. Give me a solid, good-ole A1 or A2 stock anytime.

The real danger with mortaring an AR15 or M-16 type gun is that if done incorrectly you might bend the receiver extension/buffer tube and the gun will not be able to function.

Given the shenanigans I've seen on the shooting line, I have no doubt about that either.
