Real Books Only

I'm going back to real books. No digital books and no audio books. I have found that if I don't like the author's voice I will dislike the book. I have big stacks of books. I'll just keep adding to them.

I have a couple dozen books loaded on my phone, for when I'm trapped and bored, but I prefer good old books.

For books with color pictures or books that I am going to use for reference where there will be a lot of turning through the pages, I prefer real books.  But for reading fiction and books that I am not going to refer to heavily, I prefer E-books via Kindle.  They are less expensive and I don't have to worry about the space they will take up.

I have an iPad mini I use for reading.

My hardback collection is the closest thing I have to an art collection. My most beloved nerd books are all hardback. The books I have been telling people to read for the past 20 years that are now on TV like they’re some kind of new discovery (American Gods, Handmaid’s Tale) are up there in places of honor. I like the look, feel, and smell of paper books.

But I also read a lot of brain candy and crappy YA supernatural fiction I’d rather not take up space on my shelf or be extra weight in a box I’m lugging up and down the stairs during a move. Ereaders are perfect for storing 3rd rate Twilight knockoffs iBooks literally gives away for free.

I cannot get into ebooks. I have to have the book in my sweaty hands, turning the pages, feeling the paper.  Maybe I'm just old school, but to me a real book turns me on.

I am still a hard book person.

However, I like to borrow the books from the local library, so that when I am done, the books go back instead of sitting around the house forever.

Note:  If the local library doesn't have a particular book, the library can borrow it from another library, sometimes for a charge.

I had tons of books that I donated when I sold my house and downsized to a condo.  I kept a few, but I mostly buy e-books now since they are more convenient, especially when I'm traveling.

As for what I read, lots of boring scientific journals for work ...LOL ...but I'm also a Steven King fan, so I've read many of his novels.  I haven't had much free time for casual reading lately, but when I do it's usually Sci-Fi, fiction, biographies, or whatever look interesting.

I have a complete collection of Louis LaMour western novels. I've read everyone of them at least 3 times & will probably go through the entire collection again sometime in the future.

I also have a bunch of Western & Native-American history books I used as research for my time as a Mountain Man re-enactor.

Don't know anything about e-books. Never, ever used one so I have no opinion about them.

I have a complete e-book collection of 30 SciFi authors - headed by Isaac Asimov.
ALL of my e-book are "backed up" by hard books

Lately, I'll explore the writings of some authors - and if I like them, I'll try for hard copy.

There are a few authors I regularly follow that ONLY do e-books.
