The Egyptian obelisks were related to the phallic symbol (erect penis).
Same thing in Greece. I stayed in a hotel where the front door had two "child" statues with prominent erect penises.

If the aliens have seen the movie, The War of the Worlds, you'd think they would know better than to come to Earth. :G link wrote: Careful what you wish for.

If there are aliens out there I am sure they are well aware of how hostile we are.
Looks like the international conspiracy of copy cats continue.

Truthfully I don't think there is anyone. I believe we are alone in the Universe. If they are there I would subscribe to the zoo theory. That they are hidden from us. Think about this. Humans are very ingenious. If a spaceship hovered over a city and left without saying anything I guarantee we would figure it out just by observing it. Plus who in their right mind would want us to know that kind of technology.G link wrote: If there are aliens out there I am sure they are well aware of how hostile we are.

The human intellectual difference between humans and chimpanzees is like 10%. Now imagine if a species was just 10% smarter than us. Stephen Hawking would be like a first grader doing math and we would be like just another animal to them. I believe humans are very arrogant in believing we are some special species and that a higher life form would want to converse with us. Then again we are arrogant in everything as a species.

During the original Cosmos, Carl Sagan shared a formula that basically takes the odds of life evolving vs the # of habitable of places in the universe.
The odds of life existing elsewhere is actually pretty good.
The odds of them being within range and having the ability to travel here? That's a whole other piece of science that makes it highly unlikely.
So alot of it is on faith and dreams. Just like religion.

I believe there is something...so life as we at work identify it can be just a primitive live cell or amoeba. The numbers based on sustainable planet location are odds on that something exists even if it is microscopic... 8) signed space nerd...lolRachel Varga link wrote: Truthfully I don't think there is anyone. The Fermi Paradox
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fermi_paradox
Enrico Fermi was"architect of the nuclear age" or the "architect of the atomic bomb". You don't hear his name like you do Oppenheimer but he was an incredibly intelligent scientist and he asked the question, If there is so much life in the Universe why have we not come across it yet? I know it is easy to dismiss based on the idea that the Universe is so large that there is probability that it is there but he follows up with real math and discussion on why it may be true there is none. It is not a statement he is making, it is a question he makes using mathematical analysis.

Miss Varga, you are well read in a lot of different subjects. I was watching a nature documentary a little while back about a research ship near Antarctica that would drop its nets in the sea and the scientist would gather the species caught in the nets and document the findings. I was amazed about the amount of fish and crustaceans that they found which was previously unknown to them.
The human race has been around just a fraction of the time of the existence of the universe and we are continuously learning about it. Quantum physics and AI is very new in our existence and very few people can even grasp the ideas of these wonders.
I believe the biggest threat in science and knowledge would be becoming too in doctrine in what we currently know and the biggest threat in mankind would be developing technologies that are not aligned with the human race.
Never stop questioning things. Its beneficial for the mind and society in general.

I just pick up stuff from people around me and look it up. I'm not an expert in any of it. Quantum Physics has been around since the 1920s. It is mind-boggling. I think the reason most people can't grasp it is because you need layer upon layer of math and through college and then teaching it is always there so you constantly are around it.G link wrote: Miss Varga, you are well read in a lot of different subjects. Most high-level things like that are just years and years of study and being in an environment with others like yourself.
Skepticism is part of science. Science is never settled. If someone says that they are ignorant of the fact that science does not work that way. if it did we would still believe that ether permeates the Universe.
Here is a good subject that people constantly say the science is settled. Climate change. I am not saying it exists or not. My point is that if you say the science is settled then you have crossed over from science into dogma. We have to keep questioning to find an answer and then keep questioning.
My opinion on the matter I keep to myself much like politics.

Any one that uses the term "settled science" is lying to you. The whole concept of science is that there is always something new to discover. Had Einstein believed in "settled science", he would have never developed the concept of relativity.Rachel Varga link wrote:
