Vegas and other US resort cities over priced?
Are resorts such as Vegas and other cities over priced or is it all relative to incomes? I have to wonder. Or is it the cost of operating resorts in Vegas and other cities compared to other countries? I've been watching this guy from London for a couple years for his Vegas gambling trips but he and his girlfriend went to the canary Islands. 7 days in a 5 star resort for around $650 dollars, no resort fees. He also pointed out in the video, if you were in Vegas you would pay extra to be in a lounge out by the pool.
BTW: I just got offers from Circa. Even with the occupancy reductions, they're still having trouble filling the rooms in the newest hotel casino in Vegas. Or are they asking too much at $300 per night?

I lived in Vegas for three years and it is expensive. Not like California but much more than Texas. Most that live there don't go to the casinos. One thing that sucked was that there were no good restaurants. The casinos had everything, food, movies, bowling alleys. You had to go there. Oh and there was no state lottery because the casinos got it killed in the legislature every time. Only 12% of residents were born there. A lot of people come and go.
Other than that. I liked it. If I went downtown it might be to take someone or look around at some shops.

I've visited Las Vegas for 25 years for the NHRA Drags, SEMA Show and SHOT Show. The Venetian, Palazzo, Wynn, Bellagio, Mandalay Bay, MGM Grand, Caesars Palace, Cosmopolitan, Aria and other 4 or 5 star Las Vegas Boulevard casino hotels are expensive. Circus Circus is more economical but it's a dump. The SHOT Show is held at the Sands EXPO Convention Center at the Venetian, and they have a multi story parking garage with elevator where we've always found free parking available.
I usually stay at Sam's Town Casino Hotel on Boulder Highway north of Tropicana, since there's ample free parking, the rooms are clean, and room rates & resort fees are lower. There's a Super WalMart right across the street too. Besides I don't have the patience for the heavy sightseeing traffic on the Las Vegas Boulevard strip. I travel Sahara Boulevard from Sam's Town to either the Sands or Las Vegas Convention Centers and it's only a 20 minute drive.

Station Casinos and "local casinos" usually offer fair prices and so do many places on Freemont street. The Strip is expensive as it's designed for tourists and locals don't go there much. The only thing that can be expensive in Las Vegas is entertainment, but if you live here it's relatively cheap for a city and it's far cheaper right now than Reno due to housing prices and availability.
If Circa is asking $300 per night I personally don't see how they are going to make it as it's a different crowd that frequents downtown and that's just too far above the pricing of most other hotels in that area. Overall its a great place but has been going downhill with the population influx the past 5-6 years and it's probably going to take 3-5 years to recover economically at the least.

I went to that casino in North Las Vegas called can-something. It was non smoking from what I remember and I live by Red Rock which was nice. The housing wasn't too expensive from what I remember but coming from Texas the food and gas was.Dirk Diggler link wrote: Station Casinos and "local casinos" usually offer fair prices and so do many places on Freemont street. Funny thing is I never thought about the brothels but I'm glad because it was the time when Hof was getting away with shit and I would have probably stabbed him in the nuts.

When I see pizza for $9 a slice or banana splits at $13.49 on the strip, I just shake my head. However as some have said the deals are much better off the strip. Of course, you have to have some way to get there but I usually always have my car with me. Here's a feller who really knows where to go. I know most of the places for cheap eats such as Ellis Island and ocean in the Miracle Mile but didn't know about this place. Damn, he made me hungry for a good bean burrito. If you go to youtube and type in Bob Dingo, you can find all his videos.

I can tell you this. When I lived there your choice for ethnic restaurants was slim. Here there are a billion restaurants and a lot of variety. Not like NY or Chicago but pretty good.

Overpriced maybe. But the real scam is the resort fees! Just give me the total price and quit trying to hide the real price.

The art of any resort/luxury industry is to keep the price as high as possible. Its not the charity industry.
Its nice to have other options for those of us that are not as wealthy.
