Trying to think positive--The Corona Virus.
Usually there's an upside and a down side to everything. I was so fed up with this year, I pulled my old calendar down and put my 2021 calendar up hoping for better things ahead for everyone. However, I did see one thing which came out of the virus that I hope will stick around long after the virus. That is outdoor dining. Many cities have let restaurants put tables and chairs outside and in some cases have even closed parts of streets to make room for outdoor dining along with extending out into parking lots. I was thinking that's good for mild climate areas but what about cold areas in the winter. Then I watched a video on youtube where a feller who lives in New York walked in Little Italy in Manhattan and most the restaurants had set up outside with heaters to keep customers warm. I thought to myself, this is great. Almost as good as visiting a taco truck and eating outside. I hope the cities allow restaurants to continue outside dining after the virus is gone.

You are right. When something bad happens to me I am of course upset and the only way to pull out of it is to try to find some good from it.
I love curbside pickup. I like going to eat at a restaurant but a lot of times I wish I could just take it home. Some will let you pick it up but I just want to drive up and get it as if I'm at the window.
I like going to the movies but not all the time to see something new. Food is very expensive. The markup on popcorn is around 1500% and everything else. I can't stand assholes reading their texts either. People are rude. I have a 120 inch screen, a projector, and just need the audio portion and some chairs. Even without that most people are fine with watching their tv and a significant portion of people in their 20's watch on their phone or tablet.
So the movie industry now has to come to terms with the same thing the music industry did in the 2000's. Change in how people consumed music.
The theatre is not going to die but it will change.
I am not a prepper but I now see how people act and I should prepare for things. Small events happen. I live in tornado alley. When a tornado happens you get looters and crime. After Katrina the murder solve rate was around 50%. Something big like a solar flare is rare just having supplies for smaller events is smart.
Someone made a point to me. If something really big happened and we descended into chaos with no money system how do you think women will get things and keep protection? I'll let you figure that one out.
I'm just saying that seeing people lose their minds because they might not be able to wipe their sss made me think I should prepare a little better with supplies and ummmm ammunition.

I think going to an office on a daily basis will be a thing of the past. Too much money to be saved on office space and just commuting, both in time and cost to go back to the old way after companies and organizations have learned to work apart.
There are times where meeting in person is needed.
I know what we are talking about is sharing an office space with 2-3 other teams. We would rotate weeks in the office every 3-4 weeks. The other teams would work remotely during those times.
Distance learning has become far more accepted. I've done a number of classes remotely this year. Taking out the travel does help.

It looks like outdoor malls might also be making a comeback after the pandemic after so many years of building indoor malls. At least I hope so. The Grove in L.A really looks nice at Christmas time.

I will admit, Nintendo has been a great stock to invest in this year, what with Animal Crossing being a big seller as well as Hyrule Warriors. Also, I do Uber Eats on the side, and there have been times during the pandemic where I was so busy with food deliveries, I was making some good cash.
I live in Utah. We didn’t shutdown all the way. I was fortunate to keep working, as when the kids were kept home from school from March to June, Lifetime was selling playground sets and basketball poles like mad. Me and several others were sent from plastics to help out in basketball backboards. So, in a way, things were alright.

I watched events play out this year and came to the conclusion that it doesn’t take much for things to descend into chaos. At the very least we must be able to defend ourselves when the police can’t or won’t step in. Never thought that way until this year. Concealed pistol for around town and a loaded shotgun for the house. Lots and lots of ammo because that’s what will disappear first.

Yep, I bought a new AR yesterday and had to get NATO ammo which is useless.

I filled the gas tank on my 4Runner back on March 14th & didn't fill it up again until December 4th. This year alone I've only driven approximately 350 miles... all in town. Normally, I'd drive maybe 9000 miles or a little more in a year.Rachel Varga link wrote: I bought my Mustang a year ago and it still has 9k miles on it. At least it keeps the milage down.
Lately, I've been on an ammo reloading binge. Fortunately, I was already well stocked with reloading supplies. Trying to get brass, bullets, powder & primers now is difficult. The stuff flies off the shelves as soon as they're restocked. It's the same with factory ammo... inventories don't last long. Some of it, I believe, is being hoarded by speculators (AKA greedy pendejos > ) hoping to make big bucks later.Rachel Varga link wrote: You are right. My mileage is actually up as I flew to my job in California for the last few years. But not this year. Plus with my mother passing away, I drove cross country for the burial.
I do think the move to online ordering for retail was probably the final nail in the coffin for non essential goods. This year really showed which businesses truly matter.

I like the outdoor dining concept and hope they continue with that, as well as offering take-outs/curbside pickups which makes things convenient when you don't feel like dining in.
I also bought a new Acura RDX in 2019, since I planned to do more road trips. I was planning a cross-country trip this past spring/summer, but Covid screwed up those plans. The only good outcome is saving on gas and maintenance, since I would have put on a ton of miles. I still have less than 7000 miles on it now, since I've been mostly driving around the city/burbs.

I never dreamed I would own a gun much less that you could load your own ammo. I believe that America being the only country that you can only own a gun for real and having 300 million out there is probably the only thing that keeps the world from being subjugated by governments and no one is stupid enough to try and invade.
It would be the most hellacious war an enemy would endure.
I found a Reddit post where someone asked foreign soldiers what they thought about fighting the American military and most said the perception was that American military was something they didn’t want to fight. A few said they said to hell with that because there was no point. You were going to die.
I’m sure not all think that but ad a kid they were the bad asses to me.
I thought about maybe going into the military when I was young and a friend knew people in the Securitate and was offered a job. I probably could have gotten in but that’s like the KGB. Good job but not worth things you might have to do. Plus I take any job serious so you can see where that would go.

Plus my Father was shot and wounded during the revolt so that would be a conflict inside of me. I found out when I was doing the estate. There is paperwork showing he received lifetime pension for fighting in the revolution.Banginit link wrote: yeah i could only imagine... where u go w that with dedication n work ethic
Also found out I am part Greek and his family was mostly architects that designed buildings that received awards from the King. Yes I have documentation and proof. Grandfather was a mayor of a town before the Communists took it all. Okay so those are my distant claims to fame. Lol.

Another thing which is probably better in the long run is all the self service items such as donuts and dinner rolls and everything else that was once self serve in supermarkets is now gone. No more everyone reaching in and touching everything instead of using tongs. Last time I ate out at the Parrot in the Atlantis casino in Reno, they had taken all the salt and pepper shakers off the tables. No more toll takers on bridges in CA. either. A camera reads your license number and send you the bill if you don't have fast track.
