Being a weather kind of feller, I've been watching this cold air that is down from Alaska. It's making parts of Texas and other states look like the north pole. I hope everyone is alright.

It's six degrees where I am in the Midwest. What gets me is that there are homeless people outside in tents downtown who refuse to go inside when offered shelter. Poor folks probably have issues psychiatric or otherwise where they do not trust anyone. People have been taking them coffee and coats.

There was a SMF glitz because my post was written, "The cold weather hasn't hit parts of California yet, since our area high was 59firefighter link wrote: The cold weather hasn't hit parts of California yet, since our area high was 59

The SMF forum apparently doesn't like the degree symbol, because it cut off my sentence after the first degree symbol between 59 & F.firefighter link wrote: There was a SMF glitz because my post was written, "The cold weather hasn't hit parts of California yet, since our area high was 59

It cut off the sentence after the apostrophe between e & s in Valentines too. The system was doing this the other day too. Theres no edit time so a post cant be corrected by a normal modify.

In southeast Nebraska, at 5AM my indoor/outdoor thermometer read -28 degrees. Wind chill also -28 (no wind). High forecasted to be 1. Seems like my natural gas furnace is on all the time. Glad I replaced it in November. Pretty sure it would have crapped out this month. Loaded up on groceries last week when it was a warm 15 degrees.

The daytime high the past few days have been 0-2 degrees. Wind chills have been 25-30 below!

In Texas we are dealing with single digit temperatures, snow and ice, and rolling power outages that may have power out for 8-12 hours at a time, and then you get an hour or two of power. The clean energy wind turbines are frozen and not providing the power output that we need.

The wind chill brings the temps down to sub zero.

Looks like our weather here in Albuquerque is rather mild compared to other places around the country. It's 28 degrees right now & has been snowing on & off here this morning (about 2" accumulation currently). It got down to +7 Sunday & will be back up to 58 by Saturday.

On the Texas gulf coast we have set new lows. I have been with out power since Monday. Had to go out of town to get gas and some grocery. Very limited on that too. They said we "may" get power tomorrow .
If you don't like the way I'm livin then leave this long haired country boy alone.

I've been watching a series of YouTube videos where this feller is driving across country from Calif. To Florida via HWY 10. It's interesting and something I would love to do but not in this weather. Too many major accidents as shown in the video. Stay safe wherever you are at put another log or two on the fire.

Well, driving in this weather isn't a big deal. As a kid, I drove a rear wheel drive car in worst weather.
However,,,,,the issue is what do you do if something happens....
If you slide off the road, there may be a tow ban for two days.
If you need gas, the stations may have lost electricity for two days.
If you need food, the restaurants may have already sold the last hamburger.
If it turns to -10 deg and you need to curl up in your sleeping bag - the bag that is back home.
Prepare for everything or stay home.

What CB said! In my area here in the Chicago which is closer to Lake Michigan, we also got dumped on with 17" of snow overnight on top of the cold temps! We're still getting on/off lake effect snow.Chicagobob link wrote: The daytime high the past few days have been 0-2 degrees. Wind chills have been 25-30 below!

Texas has rolling power outages and states north didn't and had grids go down. I usually remote in from work but that isn't happening.

Stay safe, and warm. We (up north) have a heat wave coming next week. I suspect the south will also benefit shortly.Rachel Varga link wrote: Texas has rolling power outages and states north didn't and had grids go down. I usually remote in from work but that isn't happening.
