I tried to post a joke but the end of the joke gets cut off after I post it. The last two sentences disappear. I tried twice with the nearly the same results. The second post only added two more words. Also, what happened to the "Modify" button?

One of my posts was cutoff past the first hyphen I had used. The system doesn't seem to accept special characters such as hyphens and etcetera. I removed the special characters and I was able to submit my complete post.Prospector Bob link wrote: I tried to post a joke but the end of the joke gets cut off after I post it. There were no hyphens in the post. The only special characters were a dollar sign, some apostrophes & quotation marks. So what happened that special characters became an issue when posting? They were okay to use before.firefighter link wrote: One of my posts was cutoff past the first hyphen I had used. The system doesn't seem to accept special characters such as hyphens and etcetera. SMF seems to be a sensitive type forum and sometimes problems occur for unknown reasons. You might alternately try removing the quotation marks, dollar signs or apostrophes and reposting it. You could test it in the PM system beforehand too by sending it back to yourself. The preview displayed my post complete but after I hit post the portion after the first special character was missing.Prospector Bob link wrote: There were no hyphens in the post. OK... I re-posted the joke & it was all there. The only difference was I typed in the whole text instead of copy & paste from an an email I received from a friend who sent me the joke. Something weird is happening with posting stuff here. Never had problems having text disappear when doing copy & paste before.

Sometimes there are embedded, non visible characters that come along with a copy/paste that trip up SMF.Prospector Bob link wrote: OK... I re-posted the joke & it was all there. My posts have gotten cut off when I used an apostrophe. I had two paragraphs reduced to a single word.

Re: Can't Post a Joke
There was never a delete post option on BrothelLife, and that could be a real problem with certain members.Cobia link wrote:

Interested bystander only allowed a 3 minute edit or modify option on his forum and there was no delete post option because there were members who would edit every post they ever made to a period when they quit the forum. That was a real problem since other members replies would not be understood if the posts to which they were replying were missing.
The Mustang forum is the only one I know that has a delete post option.

Right I have never had a delete option. I turned off modify for a while so it wouldn't be abused and now it is back on.firefighter link wrote: There was never a delete post option on BrothelLife, and that could be a real problem with certain members.

What is the " down " side to a " delete " option ?

People making posts and then deleting them causes confusion to the rest of the readers. Some people like to vent then delete after say something in anger.
