Good hotels in Elko

#1

Post by OldNick999 »

Any suggestions on hotels in Elko? I will be visiting Desert Rose on June 2. I thought about grabbing a room in Wendover then driving to Elko, but it would probably be best if I found a room in Elko.

Ramada Hotel at Stockmen's Casino is just a little over 2 blocks from the Desert Rose.

I always favored the Red Lion in Elko.  Not walking distance to the brothels but still close with a great casino and restaurants along with the hotel.

Stockmans is comfortable enough - my biggest complaint is that many of the rooms face inwards towards the brightly lit all night pool area and the curtains do a poor job of blocking that light. If you are not renting a car, though, it's an easy winner.

I also prefer Red Lion. A little further away but the restaurant is really good, a much better casino, and it's actually dark at night :) .

Update!

Been checking room rates and scouting the landscape on Google Earth. I looked at Gold Dust West, but the hotel is not attached to the casino! I would have to walk across the parking lot! No bueno!

Ramada seems to be the cheapest. I get paid tomorrow so I will make my decision then.

I'd go with the Red Lion, much nicer place. Although close, Ramada/Stockman is dated big time and if your room is in the courtyard, you'll have the light issues like Sidey mentioned along with the noise of every drunk out there.

Slednx, the Stockmans is not that bad.  Yes, it's dated, but so is Elko, 8)  I have stayed at the Red Lion was not bad but definitely not great.  And it's the second-best casino in Elko Gold Dust West is better.
Plus, you can walk to the brothels if you want to. And to the light, just have a couple more drinks.
LOL, noise from drunks, so no drunks at the Red Lion?  You get drunks at every casino hotel.

Red Lion... decent restaurants, starbucks inside, and a casino if that's your thing.  Mrs. prefers it.... but, we stayed at the Home 2 Suites / Hilton last time we went... would also consider the Town Place Suite by Marriott.
Married Couple from Florida looking for fun.

Thanks for all the suggestions, but I failed to factor in something important. It is a 3 1/2 hour drive between where I live and Elko. Since  I am coming from and driving back to Utah, the hour change applies, and I work the night of my return home. I think it would be best if I get a room in Wendover, then drive to Elko. I am more familiar with Wendover, so that is what I will do.

If I take two or more days off, then I will stay in Elko. Maybe get some more play time in, too.

Well, I got my room in Wendover and drove to Elko for my play date. It was an hour and 40 between the two cities, and the drive back in the dark was scary with all the trucks. I am NOT doing THAT again! I am getting a room in town next time.

I am, however, making another trip to Desert Rose in the future.

Nick, I did that ride once late at night/early AM to catch a flight out of SLC and yes - never again. You're out of cell phone range and gas stations for the most part. If something goes amiss, you're fucked and not in a good way. There are no good hotels in Wells. Personally I stay at the new Quality Inn in Elko. Hope to cross paths.

Stockmen's is within staggering distance from the red light district.  As long as you're not crawling on your hands & knees, the cops are cool!  8)
It's more about the journey than the destination!
