As remnant of the Soviet-Afgan war, there are an estimated 10 million anti-personnel mines and unexploded ordnances that are not able to be found with conventional detection methods.  Sadly, it is the kids that find the mines instead, with deadly results.

This technique uses low flying UAVs using thermal imaging to detect temperature differences caused by the plastic devices.
