I just wanted to buy a deadbolt house lock.

I get to Lowes which seems to have more of what I need along with Ace Hardware then Home Depot. I found a deadbolt lock I wanted at a fair price and got in the checkout to buy it. When I get up to the register, the young woman ask if I was ready and I said I think so, that's why I'm in line. She then said in that case you have to push the proceed button. I said I'm not using credit, I'm paying cash. She then reached over and pressed the proceed button on the credit machine to start my order. She then ask if I was a club member and I said no, I just want to buy my deadbolt lock. She then ask if I wanted to donate to Red Cross and I said I just came in to buy a deadbolt lock. Not to donate to any charity. She finally rings it up and ask if I would like a receipt or not. I asked if it was defective if they would take my word I bought it from Lowe's and I could either exchange it or get a refund. She looked at me and said I guess you need a receipt.
In all fairness the employees are real nice and are just working according to the rules passed down by the White shirt in the big office sitting behind the big desk in the big chair who has probably never shopped or worked in a hardware store in his/her life.
So how's your day going? ;D

Sidewinder, I feel your pain. I stopped renting from Redbox because you couldn't just pick a DVD and pay for it. Nope, everything is a promt. 5 unnecessary screens that come up and you have to decline and say "no thanks" just to get to where you insert your credit card. Forget it.
Nowdays, it also seems all these million dollar corporations want US to donate to everyone. Enough is enough!

Saturday morning I woke up in 1984 but quickly realized that it was still 2020. Went to my early voting location and waited in line for 4 hours to cast my vote under the illusion that one man was going to save me from all my problems. Afterwords I went to the hardware store to pick up a few items. I cruised by the ammo isle and it was completely empty except for some shotgun shells.
After that I went to get gas. I had to hit the key pad 10 extra times trying to explain to it that I did not want a car wash of free soda. After that I went to get fast food and spent and extra minute explaining to the person taking my order that I don't want a coke or any other add on items and that I don't want to donate to their charity of choice. Got to love corporate America!

Sidewinder,
Yep, very familiar with that general scenario, irritatingly almost everywhere anymore.
It seems they want to gather as much info about us to market to us; plus they collect money from us for whatever charity, and then they're so great for having done that. 'Lowes gave a million dollars to charity'; not the 'customers', Lowes (or whatever store).
Soon they'll microchip all of us and connect that to 'our' economy; e.g., our individual purchasing and spending habits (along with trying to control our every move). Maybe I should change my name to 'Paranoid'.
But, on the other hand, my day improved slightly when I was able to pick up 400 practice rounds of 9mm! (I cheated; I went through the store twice to buy two, 200-round boxes. Like all stores now, they limit the amount. At this store, it's 3 boxes of 50s-or-less/box, or 1 box of anything more than 150 rounds. Yeah, I know; I'm one of those evil hoarders! Oh, well, I'm sure the devil will be happy to have more company.)

And to take it one step further, learn to stock up on reloading components during non election years.

I better think about getting deadbolt locks for my home. Note to self: Do it now.
