I was wrong---I never dreamed---

That is I never dreamed casino buffets would start opening back up but they are and with buffets with serving utensils that 100's have touched and god only knows where some of their hands have been. Unless it's a cafeteria style buffet where you're served by the restaurant, I think I'll pass. Am I over reacting?

Buffets have always been a germophobe’s nightmare, if it makes you feel any better almost all COVID transmission has been shown to be airborne and not surface based so you’re only likely to get colds and other infections :P makes me feel dumb for Lysol spraying and Clorox bleach wiping my groceries way back at the very beginning of this in March 2020

Can always purell after a run thru the buffet line when you’re back at table. I know I haven’t even gotten a minor cold, sore throat, so much as a headache this past year and a half since masking, social distancing and hand sanitizing like Monk (random tv detective reference for you). So this whole pandemic has been grrrrreat for my personal health :P

I'm not much of a buffet type of guy, but I have been to a few of the buffets in Vegas, since they were comped by the casinos. The buffets at the Aria and the Bacchanal buffet at Caesars are very good. Although, I won't go near the one at Circus Circus ...LOL. That one reminds me of the buffet that Clark Grizwald and cousin Eddie went too in the movie Vegas Vacation. :D As for the germs on those serving utensils, I've never gotten sick from eating at the buffets so I guess that I've been lucky or maybe I have a good immune system. :)

Not all of the Vegas buffets are reopening. Boyd Gaming announced that they aren't going to reopen any of the buffets at their Vegas properties and I believe there are a few others that aren't returning. The new Resorts World doesn't even have a buffet.

You always overreact. I bet you would go to the buffet if it was comped!

I never ate at The Atlantis Buffet. Not that I didn't want to but the lines were ridiculous. However, where I do like to eat when in Reno is the Parrot cafe in The Atlantis. Very good food and service. Outside of that, I usually go outside of the casinos to eat. Next time in Reno, I think I'll go over to Baldinis. They seem to have some great food specials. It's not that far from Grand Sierra where I usually stay.

It depends what you're reacting to. If you're worried about covid, then you need to consider that it's an airborne disease. So if you're going to get it, you'll get it from walking by people and not the silverware.

If you're worried about germs in general, then I'd say you're overreacting. Yes the silverware is used by 100s, but it's washed after each one and those washings are almost certainly with an industrial dishwasher. I'd say your concern should be the food itself. Specifically cold food that isn't kept cold enough or hot food that isn't hot enough or is left out too long. The latter part is especially concerning because nobody is really in charge of keeping track how long the food is left out.

Let me ask you fellers and felleretts something. Suppose the waitress went to seat you and you could see another family had just been sitting at the table and decided to move to a larger table. Even though nothing was used, the silverware and cups/glasses had been moved around meaning the family who was originally sitting there had touched everything---would you be alright with using that silverware and glasses/cups or would you request new silverware and cups?

I wouldn’t stress about it as long as there was no residue left over like drool! Lol
Think about it, the dishwasher touches your glasses/silverware, the table setter does, the waitress may & I guarantee you they all didn’t just wash & sanitize their hands before they did.
I’m not a germaphobe at all. I believe germs are good & build your immune system but if you have a poor immune system then why are you even going in public? If you’re that worried about the germs then stay home, there are germs everywhere you can’t avoid them

The only thing that would stop me from going to a buffet in Vegas is the price. They are not cheap anymore.

The last time I ate at the buffets in Vegas, it was when MGM was offering unlimited visits across all of their casinos for $40 a day. Plus it allowed VIP line usage. I was attending a convention at one of their casinos that didn't include meals so it worked out as a deal for the convenience of getting in and out.

But I'm with the others that say that eating at the buffet is no different than any commercial kitchen environment. Everything does get sanitized. Its not perfect, but it works fairly well.

The mistake was going native in Honduras. Their immune systems has obviously adapted to germs that mine hadn't seen and left me seriously ill. Not great when you have long flights with layovers on your return.

So you're saying all the serving utensils get sanitized between each customer that uses them?

No and it wasn't before COVID either. But what we learned is that COVID is a respiratory virus that touching serving utensils doesn't pass it. So its no different than in the decades prior to the virus.

After they are used they go thru a commercial DW machine that cleans and sanitizes

So they go through the wash after each person touched them? Or are the same ones used over and over while being touched by who knows how many people. BTW: I'm not as worried about covid from the utensils as E coli that could be on people's hands from not washing their hands after going to the restroom.. Picture this, you use the utensils that everyone else has touched and then you pick up a dinner roll to butter with your hands or fried chicken to eat with your hands. No thank you!

I suggest you never eat out again being this paranoid. Things are the same as they’ve always been. Dirty utensils are washed after use. Clean ones that may have been touched by a variety of ppl are not rewashed. Same as always, if the table was set for 4 but only 2 sit at it the host will generally take two away & put them in the area to be used at another table. If they are left then they will be cleared with the dirty ones & rewashed.
I honestly can’t believe you’ve ever left your house being this paranoid

You know Sidewinder is all talk just trying to get into an agreement. If the buffet was cheap or even better free he would be pushing everyone out of the way to be first in line.

I welcome your responses but try to stick to the post itself instead of trying to turn it into a post about Sidewinder. I get enough attention on my own with what I post and don't need any help from you.
