Interesting that Delta is working with a 3rd party to develop a special seat that can be folded up to allow a wheelchair to be docked and secured in that spot. When the seat isn't being used for a wheelchair, it can be unfolded for a regular passenger.

The FAA approval has not yet begun. The reason for this effort is that currently a wheelchair passenger has to check their chair for baggage and transfer to airport wheelchairs several times. Plus, the airlines damage about 11,000 wheelchairs annually. Many wheelchairs are custom to the specific person, so swapping out to another chair isn't feasible.

Having the wheelchair passenger stay in his chair from beginning to end saves on chair damage expense and ground support an additional equipment at the terminal.

Maybe in five years this feature will be widely available.

Someone should have started working on this when ADA became law.

This is a lang time coming. I do wonder how it will work as many personal wheelchairs are wider than the aircraft entry door & significantly wider the the isle
