We were wondering if any of you long timers had any experiences with Dennis, prior to him buying the Bunny Ranch?  We beleive some of you have been at it for 30+ years which would pre-date him being an owner and just being a patron. 


It was interesting for us to think of him as a monger, sharing information with other mongers.  It also makes us wonder which of you will be the future owners in the industry!

You should talk to Sidewinder.  ;D  I've heard stories from him where back in the days, he use to visit the BR when Dennis was a customer like the rest of us.  I seem to recall Sidey saying that, he and Dennis use to talk about getting cheap parties ...LOL. ;D  Although, I'm sure that if you were to ask Dennis, he will deny everything that Sidey says ...LOL

There aren't too many active mongers who go back that far, but perhaps Interested Bystander might know more, since he's been around for quite awhile.  If you ever meet Bashful at any of the July gatherings, he's another old-timer with lots of stories from the old days.

If you want to know about Dennis before he owned brothels, best bet is to read his book for his take on events.


I have never heard that Sidewinder knew him as a fellow client before he owned any brothel, nor would I believe a word of it.


Sidewinder has an obsessive-compulsive disorder dislike of Dennis, thus I would not consider him a credible source.

Oh, we aren't looking to become "besties" with Dennis - just curious as to anyone's historical recollection of him as a customer, prior to being an owner. 

Actually, the same curiousity exists about any of the owners, from Elko/Wells down South and up to Mustang.  Is it the "norm" that existing clientle pools  together and takes over when there's an opportunity?  Or, is it more likely an investment group and business that swoops in and takes over, without ever even being a client? 


As for reading his book - I'd imagine that the prospective in there may be a bit slanted too  .  Our future reading list is long .... maybe someday we'll get to it.  [/size]

The Bashful suggestion is a good one and perhaps Jagged. They both have stories from way back. I suggest you find them during awards week and pick their brains, you may learn more than you want! lol

Dennis has given a number of interviews where he touches on pre-owner life.  Here a little, there a little.

He once spoke about being married during high school.  While his buddies worried about "getting some" on the weekend, Dennis "got some" 3 times a day - morning, noon, evening.

When your done with your research, let is all know.

Here is a thing to keep in mind, Dennis Hof bought the Moonlight bunnyranch in 1992 (I did not know the year off the top of my head and had to look that up).  That is 26 years ago.  In brothel times, that is the equivalent to several generations given the way that customers and ladies come and go and move on to other things in life.  The only person I know of who knew him from that time would be Bob Zmuda, a comedian and comedy writer who often hangs out at Dennis' brothels in northern Nevada.  He was Andy Kaufman's comedy writing partner and has gone on to do other things since.: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Zmuda .

I've spent many hours hanging out with and talking to Bob when I was at Dennis' brothels.


Another thing to keep in mind is that most guys tend to be solitary or stay within the group that they came in with when they visit brothels.  They are not talking to everyone in the place and telling them their names--especially in that era.


Now people might ask if you are on any message boards, but for the most part guys tend to interact with the ladies and stay to themselves.

Sidey's forte is politics, current events, and posting in the fight club.  He may not have much interest in this forum since he hasn't partied in years and may have lost his sexual desire.

However, I'm 330 miles & 5 hours away from Mustang Ranch and there's probably snow at Donner Pass... sigh!  :'(

I highly doubt that Rachel will let that type of BS become part of this board.  That's what sets this site apart for the others.  It nice having a place where you don't have to deal with a lot of BS and whatnot ...LOL.  The main reason why I mentioned Sidewinder is because he is the only one that I know of who had ever talked about running into Dennis during those early days.  Your guess is as good as mine, in regards to whether that's true or not.  ;D

The thing to keep in mind is before guys got to know each other on messageboards and online which started in the mid 1990s, going to a brothel was a solitary affair or something you did with personal friends.


You generally went in, did your business and went out.  You generally did not mingle with guys you did not know.  Hell, I don't mingle with guys I do not know.  It's not that you are embarrassed, it is that the whole thing is a solitary affair and the other guy may be embarrassed or self conscious.


So poster Bashful at that time would not have likely met or interacted with Dennis when Dennis was a customer.  And I would not believe a word that Sidewinder said due to  his pathological obsession and hatred of Dennis.  I remember a time when Sidewinder was always starting threads about Dennis or jumping on him whenever he posted.

Dennis' book does have a lot of his history in it so it would be a good place to start.

Having Read the Book...It is written fromhis perspective but I will give credit where it is due he allowed former Girlfriends and Employees to write commentary for the book and put it in without editing. To say that some of the sections are less than "glowing praise" would be an understatement. I think the truth is somewhere in the middle.

I will admit that I have met him One time before he Bought anything .. That is 1 time that I can remember . I use to Have a small drinking Problem  :o  . And I will repeat it Dennis does not need Me . He does have a couple of Ladies I would like to Play with But I do not think they are in My Budget . That is no Slam to those Fine Ladies I am just telling it like it is .
