Board ratings

Do we really need a plus or minus rating system? I feel like we are all adults here and there’s no reason for a popularity contest.
This is not because I got downvoted. I have bigger fish to fry. It just seems like a petty element we don’t need.

What if I removed the minus portion? I do agree that negative Karma is against the spirit of the board. The way I would prefer is posts were upvoted but positive votes come from participation so that's a way to reward those that participate a lot.

Karma is a SMF core feature that must be enabled if wanted. SMF's description is that, "Karma is a feature that shows the popularity of a member. Members, if allowed, can 'applaud' or 'smite' other members, which is how their popularity is calculated."
However, I believe it would be more meaningful for Karma applaud points to be given for superior posts rather than simply a member's popularity. Furthermore, anonymous smite Karma is primarily used in a derogatory manner; therefore, it would be more appropriate for moderators to confidentially reprimand members when necessary. Smite Karma points on that "other board" were primarily utilized by the trolls, especially the NYC psycho troll, because it's an excellent tool to be abusive or spread discord on a message board.
SMF Karma (up or down) or (applaud or smite) points could previously be set to identify the member who designates the points which attaches more validity too.
Rachel, I agree. I believe the upvoted points should be kept but the minus points should be disabled.

I changed it. I am looking into some better ways to implement this.
I'm not going to lie, SMF is a piece of shit forum. In fact almost every forum software is crap. I would love to use Flarum but it's still in beta and I don't want to crash the board. I am very well versed in Wordpress and BBpress. I originally was going to use that so there would be a blog and girls could post their blogs automatically and have some articles.
This is a lot of work so I am just working on that when I can.

We appreciate all the effort you put into the forum. However, we also understand it takes a lot of effort to get things just right.
There is only so much one can do.

It's an ever ongoing project. I do try to listen because I don't want to be a dick-tater.
